So Edmund Gosse describes one of Christina Rossetti’s achievements in her poetry, and so we can consider the art of poetry itself.
Our work this term is focused on poetry and in particular upon the collection of Rossetti poems in the AQA Poetry Anthology. We started by taking some of the advice offered to us by Barbara Bleinham at the English and Media centre; we are listening and looking for patterns, sounds and rhythms before considering meaning. Tuning into the movement and emotions from such classic theme tunes as the Black Beauty TV soundtrack and not forgetting Dangerous Minds’ theme ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ allowed us to see how this listening for meaning could work in poetry.
Miss Wilson then led you into an interesting discussion on Rossetti’s provocative and potentially allegoric (although Rossetti herself dismissed this) poem ‘Goblin Market.’
